Easy Homemade Plum Jam Recipe
There is nothing quite like homemade plum jam is there, buying supermarket jam doesn’t even come close to the taste of homemade. I eagerly wait each year for the plums on the tree to be ripe so I can get into the kitchen and make delicious plum cakes, crumbles and jams. They have also been known to find their way into all sorts of meals, nothing goes to waste.
1.5 kilos ripe plums
1 tbsn lemon juice
Firstly wash your jam jars in hot soapy water and rinse, then place on a rack in a warm oven to dry.
Wash the plums cut in half, take of the stem and remove the stones.
Place plums, water and lemon juice in a thick bottomed pan and boil, stirring frequently.
Turn down the heat and simmer until the plums are soft.
Add the sugar and simmer until it has dissolved.
Turn up the heat again to boiling point, stir to stop it from sticking. Continue to boil the jam.
With a teaspoon place a little of the jam on a cold saucer or plate and if it sets the jam is ready. If it is still runny it requires more boiling.
Place into sterilised jars and store until required.
I hope you enjoyed this homemade plum jam recipe, it is delicious added to cookies, yogurts or on scones.
Have a lovely day.
