Delicious Homemade Crackers

Theres always a time in our lives where we are looking through our cupboards for something to make a cheap lunch. These homemade crackers are wonderful with a little soft cheese and cucumber or sliced or grated cheese with a little pickle.

We quite enjoy these little buttery crackers with a little jam or yummy lemon curd for afters. If you cook them when your oven is already on cooking something else it makes them even more inexpensive to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 12 tbsp water
  • little extra melted butter for brushing the top.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees
  2. Mix flour, salt and melted butter together.
  3. Gradually add the water until a ball is formed.  If you need more water just add a drop at a time as you do not want the dough to be too sticky.
  4. Roll out into a square shape, quite thin.
  5. Cut into oblong shapes with a pizza cutter.
  6. Place onto a greased baking tray and brush the top with a little melted butter.  Sprinkle with a little salt if you wish.
  7. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool.
  9. Store in an air tight container.

Notes

These crackers also freeze well.
