Chinese Plum Sauce Recipe
Having a glut of plums from the tree, I thought I would eventually try and make Chinese plum sauce. There are many recipes to use plums up in desserts but not so many savoury ideas. This sauce turned out very well, making a few tweaks here and there. If you do not like garlic as some people don’t you could always leave this out.
This sauce can be served as a dip or with meat or fish, we even have it with duck pate and it is delicious. Its these little things that can make a meal, but cost so little to make. The ingredients below make 2 jars of sauce.
1 kilo plums
4 clove garlic
1 medium onion finely chopped
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
60ml soy sauce
2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
1 tbsp soft brown sugar
Firstly cut the plums into smallish pieces and place in a pan.
Add the rest of the ingredients and heat gently.
Leave on a medium heat for around 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Once its cooked leave to cool for a few minutes.
If you prefer your plum sauce to be of a smooth consistency use a hand blender for a few moments, if you prefer it with more texture you can always just mash it a little with a spoon.
Pour into jars and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. This sauce also freezes really well to use later on.
You can customise this Chinese plum sauce by adding different spices for various meals.
Have a lovely day x
