Cheap cottage pie recipe
When making any meat dishes such as this cheap cottage pie recipe I do not use a lot of meat. We are not really big meat eaters as you have probably already seen but this way also keeps the cost down. This makes a lovely main meal and can be served with baked beans or a vegetable of your choice.
200g of Minced Beef
2 large carrots diced small
1 medium onion diced
Dash of gravy browning
10g of plain flour
1.200kg of potatoes
Knob of butter for potatoes
Firstly place the mince beef and vegetables in a small saucepan, cook for a few minutes to seal. Add the water and a beef stock cube so it is covering the meat and vegetables.
Simmer the meat for around 30 minutes.
While the meat is cooking peal and dice the potatoes. Cover with water and boil until soft. Drain and mash the potatoes, add a knob of butter and seasoning to your choice.
Once the meat and veg are cooked season and thicken with plain flour mixed with a little cold water if necessary.
Place the mixture in to a deep oven dish and cover with the mashed potato.
Cook in hot oven for 10 minutes to brown off and serve with vegetables of your choice.
